Description

This six-line article in Daily Alta reports a Chinese man (Len Jung) was stabbed and robbed by three men. They stole $450 from the labourer. Attacks like these were common for Chinese immigrants. This can be seen through not only searching “Chinese” and “attack” in newspaper archives but from the fact the article is so small. There is no information in article about Jung himself, age, specific occupation, marriage status, etc. This emphasis a lack of care most of readers (white people) would have for the treatment of Chinese immigrants or such attacks. The three white men are unidentified, and it is also unknown if the police are making an investigation to arrest anyone in connection. This suggests that they are not and therefore they also have a disregard for attacks like these on immigrants.
