Description

This pink envelope was sent from China to California. The address states it is to Quong Fung Hi, of Downieville, California. Downieville was one of the major places for immigrants to live. It was not just a Chinese immigrant town, Mexicans and Chileans also moved there. The envelope symbolises that immigrants did have communication with their families and friends back home. This was not just a one way communication for them to send money back. There is a stamp on the front of a Chinese character. It is a wealthy looking woman veiled, holding a fan she represents high Chinese culture.
