Description

This document is one of the various legislative petitions sent by the Maui County Board of Supervisors to Congress to request Hawaii’s statehood.
The County Clerk Toshi Enomoto states his request for an imme-diate statehood of the Territory of Hawaii and says that the Resolu-tion was adopted by the Board of Supervisors at a meeting on No-vember 21 1958.
The Resolution states how the people of Hawaii have long awaited to be a first class American citizen and still desire it despite being denied before. In addition, they request the Resolution be passed on to President Eisenhower and Richard Nixon.
On March 18 1959, The Admission Act signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, dissolved the Territory of Hawaii and established the State of Hawaii, making Hawaii the 50th US state. Statehood became effective on August 21, 1959.
