Description

A collection of letters dated between May 14, 1888 and November 3, 1888, written by a 25 year old woman, Harriet Harper describing her long visit to different areas of California. Accompanied by another young woman, Marion, they use different modes of transportation such rail and coastal steamship to various destinations around California and even into Mexico. Harper defines her feelings as she overlooks a bird’s-eye view of San Francisco and regards their ‘stylish women’ and ‘tailor-made girls’ whilst also stating their ‘charming complexions’ and ‘air of “go”’ which may be different to the women from Maine which is where Harper is situated.
