Description

This source is a postcard of The Hollywood Hotel in California in colour with the caption ‘Hotel Hollywood at Hollywood, ca’. The postcard shows the front of the hotel and the road alongside it. The Hotel was opened in 1902 by one of Hollywood’s early investors. Its original use was for potential investors of the new housing development that had travelled a distance. As Hollywood became renowned for its film industry, writers, directors and eventually the stars themselves began to stay. Aside from just being a hotel, it became the cultural centre of Hollywood through its ballroom and restaurant. The Hotel went into demise due to building restrictions set in The Second World War, it was demolished and is now the site of the Academy Awards Ceremony.
