Description

This is a postcard written on March the 9th, 1913 and postmarked on March the 12th of the same year. The original size of the postcard is unknown. The postcard is written by someone known only as Violet and addressed to Mr P. R. Burton – possible first name, Percy, in Canada. Within the postcard, Violet talks about how she hoped Mr Burton will one day be able to see the volcano she has visited. Additionally, Violet speaks of the activity of scorching the postcard. This was a popular activity for tourists in Hawaii who were curious about Hawaii’s landscape, having travelled there by passenger steamers, in the times before commercial airlines. To get to the volcanos, visitors would either travel by car or railroad. At this time, Hawaii was undergoing major transportation developments, having realised the potential of their country as a tourist hotspot.
