Description

This newspaper shows the adverts of two different businesses, who’s main product is mining supplies. Both ‘Green Bros’ and H. Giegerich’ both supply products such as clothing, mining materials, food and dry goods. With the large influx of miners from across both the Pacific and the Atlantic, the retail industry within these mining areas would have been particularly busy, especially in relation to mining supplies and provisions. From these adverts it is possible to tell what products were most sought after by people in the area. While they market themselves heavily to miners, they also sell groceries, implying that the vast majority of their customers are miners themselves. Relating to both the theme of the Gold rush, but also that of settlement, miners within Ainsworth were clearly a large target market for the retail industry, and did not only purchase mining material, but other goods too.
