Description

Richard Henry Dana Jr. wrote this memoir about his travels from Boston to California in 1834. He comments on the lives of the Mexicans throughout the different parts of California he travelled in. His views ended up being influential in shaping the American attitudes in Eastern US towards the Mexican population. He compared the lives of the men and women within the Mexican community. Dana Jr. stated that the Mexican women were limited to being pretty because they had little education. He observes the oppression they dealt with. However he states that it comes out in the form of anger and revenge towards husbands specifically in the form of jealousy.
