Description
This letter, written on the 7th of December 1900 and finished two days later is a personal correspondence between Queen Liliuokalani and a friend. The Queen discusses her health and death of a mutual friend; she talks about missing the snow and reminisces about the last time she saw the recipient.
However, just below the surface the fact remains that this letter comes seven years after Queen Liliuokalani was deposed from the throne and two years after the United States annexed Hawaii. This first-hand account acts as an insight into the health of the Queen and her thoughts and hopes for her sovereign nation, and her hopes for Hawaii’s first delegate Robert Wilcox in congress.
