The photograph depicts the Nakai family in their living quarters from within the Manzanar Relocation Center. The photograph shows two women as well as three younger children, the photograph being one of many families whom found themselves placed into similar Relocation Centers and camps. The photograph was taken by Ansel Adams whom stated his desire was to show how people living under injustice had overcome despair by building a community within their circumstances. This photo is but one of his collection depicting life and that sense of community from within the Manzanar Relocation Center.
