Description

This newspaper talks about a meeting, that Mr. Frank Sargent had, when he went before the Senate committee. In previous conversations between Mr Sargent and a Mr. Haywood, Sargent had made it clear that he saw no particular objection to the admission of Chinese to Hawaii, as long as they eventually returned home. However, at the committee on migration, he gave an opposite testimony. He said, ‘we do not want any territory of the United States filled with cheap labour.’ This could perhaps show the relations between white Americans, especially the US government and the Chinese. There could be some underlying anger from a few members of the American government, who were keen to see these Asian communities removed from Hawaii
