Description

An overview on the ‘Chinese question’ at the Trades and Labour local council meeting. It raised the point of what they should do about the local Chinese and covers numerous suggestions on how to remove them from the area. The article states the opinions of a number of named speakers who are mostly against having Chinese in the area. Also points out that the question had been ongoing for the last twelve years. Provides the conclusion of the meeting in that no resolutions passed and a vote to not patronize Chinese laundries.
It relates to treatment and perception of ethnic minorities by ordinary people. It also relates to the larger theme of racial hierarchy. It relates to the broad theme of immigration, in particular to immigration acts that barred Asian migration.
