Description

The article reports Ex- Queen Liliuokalani’s protest against the annexation of Hawaii with her stating that this is an invasion and violation. The article also states that whilst the state accepted Ex- Queen Liliuokalani’s protest, ‘they give no indication of action in the matter.’ This article clearly emphasises the importance that Hawaiian natives hold of maintaining their traditions and their own state outside of the rule of the USA, they did not entirely support annexation. Whilst this report highlights that, it also highlights that Hawaii are clearly capable of being independent, with an Ex- Queen protesting for her country and using the English Language, it shows that the ‘ungodly’, ‘uncivilised’ Hawaiians, as said by many missionaries, were capable of supporting themselves. Furthermore, the fact that this matter was reported in press, shows how key American involvement was in Hawaii, Hawaiian matters would make headlines in newspapers
